2B Technologies is dedicated to the development and commercialization of new analytical instruments for atmospheric and environmental measurements. We specialize in miniaturized instruments for measurements of ozone (O3), nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and other chemical species in air. The photo to the right shows the Model 202 Ozone Monitor sitting atop a conventional ozone monitor. Our Model 202 was orginally developed out of the need for the University of Colorado research group of co-founder Dr. John Birks to make vertical profiling measurements of ozone on kites and balloons where measurments using conventional ozone monitors is impossible. Our small, light-weight, low-power instruments are now used for atmospheric measurements using balloons, kites, UAVs, research aircraft, and at many remote sites, including Antarctica, the Galapagos Islands, the Greenland ice sheet, the summit of Mont Blanc, the Amazon rain forest, on buoys in the Arctic Ocean, on commercial airliners, in many U.S. National Parks and at numerous other locations throughout the world. More than 700 of our Model 202 and Model 205 Ozone Monitors and more than 1000 total instruments have been sold over the past six years, with about half going to researchers outside the U.S.
Although 2B Technologies is supported primarily by sales, we also have been successful in obtaining Phase I and Phase II SBIR reseach grants for development of new environmental instrumentation. Besides projects to develop new air pollution monitors, we are working on humanitarian projects such as the development of a Rapid Iodine Analyzer for diagnosing iodide deficiency disorder, which affects more than 700 million people worldwide. Using a deriative of the technology we have developed for measuring iodide in urine, we expect to develop a Rapid Arsenic Analyzer for testing of well water in countries such as India and Bangladesh where highly toxic levels of arsenic are often encountered. 2B Tech recently lauched an outreach program to assist with science and engineering education in high schools throughout the world with an emphasis on air pollution and climate change. We will be announcing details of this very exciting global educational outreach program soon.
We thank all of our customers who have helped us be successful to date and pledge to continue to work to improve the quality of our products and services. In this regard, in 2008 we were certified ISO 9001:2000. Among other things, the ISO process has helped us improve the quality and consistency of our products. We are constantly seeking feedback from our customers and act on that feedback.
InDevR (Instrument Development and Research) acquired 2B Technologies in July 2005. InDevR, which is co-located with 2B Tech in Boulder, CO, is carrying out R&D for bioanalytical instruments based on new technologies for rapid identification and quantification of biological agents such as nucleic acids, proteins, bacteria and viruses. Dr. John Birks also is a co-founder of InDevR along with Dr. Kathy Rowlen and Dr. Laura Kuck. 2B Tech staff have contributed significantly to the development of InDevR products, especially the Virus Counter®, which will be launched as a product in mid 2009.
